Manhattan Deli

Remember on "The Cosby Show" in the '80's when Cliff Huxtable would do his happy dance over the prospect of a good sandwich? I thought of this as I ate my first sandwich from the Manhattan Deli (3705 Ingersoll, Des Moines--next to the old Ingersoll Dinner Theatre) last week.

The next day, when I returned for another sandwich (just go with whatever the daily special concoction is--you won't be disappointed and never fall into a rut) I told them that I can't imagine going anywhere else ever again for a sandwich.

There is nothing contrived or chain restaurant about this place. They just make the most awesome sandwiches with the best service. Everyone is friendly and genuinely enjoys and takes pride in what they do. You don't have to wait long, even when the line stretches to the door.

What impresses me most about the Manahattan Deli is that you will not find any pressed meat--not even turkey.

I could go on and on about this place, but why don't you try it out for yourself?
