Catching Up

It was recently brought to my attention that I have been lax on the blog updates since moving. My response was that I am pleased somebody is reading this blog!

So, to catch up.

I've been asked how the flood issue has been going. Insurance covered nothing because it was an "act of God". One of my coworkers aptly pointed out that insurance will cover stupidity--like your bathtub overflowing--but NOT acts of God. Go figure. A forprofit industry not covering acts of God. I guess I shouldn't be too shocked.

My landlord has been good and I deduct what the cost has been for me to replace things from my rent. So all is not bad in this situation.

I enjoy my job and like the people I work with very much. A few weeks ago I had a Beavis and Butthead moment when I overheard the following, "Your toilet is backing out of the wall here. You need a 6-inch stud." You gotta love working in architecture.

Los Lobos played at the Simon Estes Riverfront Amphitheatre in Des Moines on July 27. This is a great outdoor venue and, fortunately, the concert was before the major heatwave hit. With that said, it was still a hot performance for the band. The band has been playing together since 1973 and take it to a new level of being in sync with each other. Just amazing performers. I bought an acoustic CD they were selling and had all the band members autograph. They were nice guys too!

That pretty much covers it for me.
